About Gan
Gan is a travel map for keeping track of where you've been and where you're going. It's built in Scotland by Nicole Christie, inspired by seeing the world beyond your doorstep.
What does Gan Far mean?
It's a play on words. In English, Gan Far reads as "go far". In Doric, the Scots dialect of north-east Scotland, far means "where" and gan means "going", so it asks the question at the heart of the app: where are you going?
What Gan does
- Counts how many countries you've been to, with your percentage of the world
- Maps everywhere you've visited, and everywhere you're planning to go
- Lets you compare your travels with friends
- Keeps separate, private maps for your children, babies, pets and relatives
- Builds a timeline of trips with photos and passport stamps
Private by design
Gan doesn't track your location in the background. You choose what to add. Family profiles are protected by a child lock that's on by default, so they can't be made public, and you choose exactly which friends can view them. Friends can only view, never edit.
